Amos

Business is booming and community boundaries are bulging.  But below the surface, greed and injustice are festering.  Hypocritical human morals have replaced true godly morals, creating a false sense of security and a growing callousness to God's disciplining hand.  Famine, drought, plagues, death, destruction--nothing can force the people to their knees.  This nation, like a basket of rotting fruit, stands ripe for judgment because of its hypocrisy and indifference.

The opening paragraph describes the nation of Israel in the year 755 B.C. Amos was the prophet during this unprecedented time.

Much of America is described in that opening paragraph also.  Record numbers are being seen in the stock markets.  The problems that defined the housing markets are now turning back to pre-financial crisis years, albeit slowly.  The jobless rate is declining and more people are getting their personal ships righted.
I shudder to think what will happen when our, the United States of America, house of cards comes falling down?  Government backbiting, behind the scenes deal making and a nation of people left out in the dark by its chosen leaders.  Even within the halls of congress, a chasm exists between the democrats and republicans.

Psalms 94:1-3 (v1)"O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs--O God, to whom              vengeance belongs, shine forth!  (v2) Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render punishment to the proud. (v3) LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph?"

Not long according to the scriptures.  We have closed our ears to the voice of God and shut our eyes to the things we are doing to one another.  Self has become the god of this nation.  Just as we have done to God, He will do to us.
Amos 8:11-12 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD GOD, "That I will send a famine on the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD.  They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to west; they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it."
